Hiya, Once again we have just got back from staying at Ken and Helen's wonderful apartment for a fortnite. This year has been the best holiday so far and the weather in Mojácar was perfect, well over 30 degrees Celsius each day so we have all come back with a fantastic tan. We flew into Almeria as we did last year and had a very quick and pleasant journey from the airport back to the apartment with a man named John whom Ken had arranged to pick up us. The complex was even better than last year with the 3rd pool completed and more shade around the other two pools as the trees had grown. We spent alot of the holiday around the pool sunbathing as it was alot cooler than laying out on the balcony and as last year there was a lifeguard around from half ten whilst seven at night so I didn't have to worry when me and my brother went down there one out own.
This year we stayed for a few days longer and found that it
made all of the difference, we had alot more time to explore the
places we didn't't last year, in particular the Pueblo. We
didn't hire a car however we found that the yellow bus service
was brilliant and would get you to where you wanted to go
including the commercial centre, the old town, Garrucha and also
a large hotel at the end of the Playa in the holiday season they
run well into the early hours of the morning and for just one
euro each you can't go wrong. We spent a lovely day in the
Pueblo having a look round and doing some shopping and the views
were breathtaking, we enjoyed our visit so much that we decided
to go back into the town the next night for a meal.
Once again the owner's of the Sabas bar were welcoming and we were surprised that they remembered us from last year however this year we discovered a bar called "Sands" a couple more minutes along the Playa next to the El Lance restaurant. The owners and the staff there are fantastic especially Carol, Ron and Liz whom we spent alot of time talking to, even better they have recently started serving meals at night as well as in the day, it really if good quality for money we went in for a meal and ended up staying until the early hours of the morning at the meals plus the several rounds of drinks we had came to under 45 euros. In addition to food and drink Carol also runs a karaoke from half past eight at night for anyone who's interested and there is a junior karaoke competition on a Wednesday, 1st prize is 25 euros.
I found the competition really fun and made a good friend
out of it not to mention bagging some extra spending money. The
"Reflections" bar is two doors down from Sands and has a nice
atmosphere and some great staff if you're not really interested
in live entertainment, and they sell really good nuts in there.
although we spent alot of time in Sands we did have a look in
another bar called "The Cave", if you don't know it's there you
would probably walk straight past it, it's down a small path
between the Sabas bar and the American themed restaurant, once
again a really layed back atmosphere and lovely staff. All of
the above bars are within a 5 minutes walk from the apartment.
The highlight of the holiday definalty had to be when Spain won the Euro. What a phenomenal atmosphere. Within minutes of them winning fireworks were set off from the beach and the roof of one of the Spanish restaurants and cars were pipping at each other when the crossed paths, people stood in the middle of the road draping flags over peoples cars and supporters started parades in the streets and on the beaches with music. It really was just one huge party
One fantastic fortnight, so much that I wouldn't have minded if I'd stayed there all summer. All the people are fantastic, there's plenty to do so you'll never be bored and it goes without saying that the weather's bliss. I'm already counting down to next year.
Thanks Ken and Helen
We arrived at Almeria airport, where we picked up our rental car
from sol-mar car rentals. We would recommend a hire car as there are
so many lovely places to visit, there is a bus service but a car is
easier. The apartment was lovely; it has everything that you could possibly
need. The swimming pool was greatly used by all, a swim before
breakfast sets you up for the day.
Old town Mojacar is well worth a visit with its quaint shops, breath-taking views. There is a lovely English café called Lela (nothing to do with the Tele Tubbiest) is well worth a visit.
The local markets are in
Carboneras-Thursday
Garrucha- Friday
Vera- Saturday
A lovely restaurant to eat out at is the Torre Bahia in Mojacar,
good value.
If you take a ride to Carboneras the roads are long and windy with lovely views. The Banana boat ride in the bay in Mojacar is great fun for 10 euros for approx 15 minutes. Plenty of supermarkets to gather your supplies El Arbela is my favourite (Mandy), although if its English brands of food then Mr UK is the one for you. The Blue Lagoon is a friendly English bar, which does good English food at a reasonable price.
On the whole we (the Dent family) had a great time thanks to Ken and Helen from Curtis travel, we would highly recommend booking a place in the sun with Curtis travel.
Hi, I just wanted to add to the testimonial my daughter sent.
We had a great holiday and enjoyed the location.
Ken and Helen have a great apartment and the location is one of the best within the local area. It is supported by 3 large pools and 3 small pools which are well maintained and during the holiday season supported by a life guard, so no need to worry about the kids when they wander down to the pool on their own. The player is within 3 minutes walk and hosts a number of small bars and eating establishments. We enjoyed them all but the best meal of the holiday had to be at the Jolly Lemon and ironically was the last meal we had on the holiday. We also found a great little bar called the Saabs, and were given a very friendly welcome every time we visited. One thing I will do differently next year is hire a car, there is so much to see within a short distance, but just a little to far to walk. As a person who has never driven a car on the right hand side of the road, I was a little worried, but having seen the route and watched the traffic I don't think its too much of an issue.
So, great weather, great location, nice people, good food, what more could anyone ask for?
Hi, visited Mojacar for the first time this year. Just got
back from spending 10 days at Ken and Helen's Apartment. Would
recommend the Chinese restaurant at the far end of the Playa
(Turn left at the supermarket when coming from the apartment and
walk along the Playa) it's got really cheap food and drinks of a
good quality. I would also strongly recommend the 'Saabs' bar,
it's got really nice staff and a friendly atmosphere not to
mention cheap drinks and tapes. The apartment was gorgeous but
we couldn't have survived without the air-conditioning and the
pools. Hope to be back in Mojacar again soon. Thanks Ken and
Helen
Just back from an enjoyable week staying at Ken and Helens
apartment. The apartment is really nice, spacious and well
equipped had a great balcony and view and the shared pool is
fantastic. Weather at end of September was excellent and the sea
was still warm. Highly recommend Restaurant El Cortège at the
Bar La Pirate (5 mines drive away) which has a really nice
courtyard and an Italian based menu. Really nice hosts. You must
also visit Mojacar Pueblo (Old Town) for its quaintness but
recommend Garrucha for the market on Friday as it had more to
offer. We also took a trip to Carbon eras which is a very
attractive town, has a great beach and plenty of nice
restaurants on the promenade.
ps we flew into Alicante, arrived late so the 2hr drive was a drag. Recommend Almeria or Murcia. Used auto-Europe for car hire. They were both good and reasonably priced.
Stayed at the Los Atalayones apartments twice in the last
year. The apartment is very well equipment and centrally
located. Mojacar is an attractive and relaxed resort that
retains its Spanish charm unlike many other developed tourist
haunts. It is also easily accessible from a selection of Spanish
airports giving you flexibility in finding a cheaper flight!! We
would highly recommend the apartment and resort.
Dear All,
I have been visiting Mojacar for three years now
and always find that The Antler, up in the Pueblo is the best
restaurant around.
